We’ve all found ourselves thinking about our dream home. A picket fence, a beautiful garden, maybe a front terrace. But for some, this isn’t enough. Introducing Mukesh Ambani, the proud owner of the most expensive house in the world in Antilia. With an astounding 27 floors, this house costing around $2 billion defies anything you could ever conjure up in your dreams. Let’s take a look at what makes it the most expensive house in the world from its location to its square footage and much much more. Just don’t forget to pick your jaw up off the floor when you’re done reading!
The Most Expensive House In The World: The Owner
If you’re worth upwards of $22 billion, it makes sense you’d want to live somewhere worth talking about. Mukesh Ambani is the current owner of the most expensive house in the world. A business magnate, Ambani is the chairman, managing director and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited (a Fortune Global 500 Company and India’s second most valuable company by market value). He currently resides in Antilia with his wife and three children.
The Most Expensive House In The World: The Location
Atilia is located on Altamount Road in South Mumbai, one of the world’s most expensive addresses. According to property trends, per square foot of any real estate on Altamount Road ranges between an eye-watering Rs 80,000 to Rs 85,000. I don’t think I’ll be moving there any time soon!
The Most Expensive House In The World: The Design
With a whopping 27 floors and extra high ceilings, this 400,000 square-foot mansion had to be designed by the best in the business. Ambani chose to go with Chicago-based architects, Perkins & Will, with the Australian-based construction company Leighton Holdings taking charge of its construction. Despite its height, Antilia is built to survive an earthquake of 8 on the Richter scale!
The Most Expensive House In The World: The Interior
Now there’s no point in having a beautiful exterior if the interior doesn’t match! Fashioned along the lines of the lotus and the sun, Antilia’s architectural design truly is something to behold. The top six floors of the building have been set aside as a private full-floor residential area and are choc-full of everything you could possibly need (and much more)! Every single floor is designed completely as individuals. Every object, room, and piece of furniture is strategically placed in relation to how they best complement each other’s energy. You can guarantee there isn’t an interior in the world that looks anything like it!
Within these 6 floors of living quarters is an abundance of features. You can host your own movie premiere with a 50-seat-theatre, or maybe your own ball with its expansive ballroom! Other features include an indoor and outdoor bar, a whole entertainment centre, a vast ‘entourage room’ for the staff (all 600 of them) to relax in, a huge spa, yoga studios, dance studios, a ballroom, a terraced garden, a number of helipads, 6 stories of parking lots that can house 168 cars and an ice cream room. Because who hasn’t dreamed of having their own ice-cream room?! If this isn’t enough, there is also a snow room that sprinkles out man-made snowflakes! Perfect for those excruciatingly warm summer temperatures!
Given how many celebrations the family hosts in their home, it should come as no surprise that the most expensive house in the world is home to many large elevators to accommodate large numbers of people at the same time. Each lift is adorned with earthy fabric with mirror work details, making them the perfect spot for a quick photo opportunity!
The Most Expensive House In The World: The Exterior
The most expensive house in the world wouldn’t be complete without a garden! It lies in the space that holds the ‘W’-shape beams that support the upper floors. Unusually and somewhat amazingly, the hanging gardens are not just for show; the plants are energy-saving devices that absorb sunlight keeping the interior of the house cool.
It is home to an impressive array of sculptures, including one belonging to American artist Robert Indiana, the famous red Love sculptures. The Ambanis' living area also celebrates their love for art, housing a silver and gold Subodh Gupta, and a gold Ravinder Reddy head sculpture.
The Most Expensive House In The World: In The News
As you can imagine, having the most expensive house in the world like this makes you the envy of everyone who sees it, and this comes with a price. On March 14th 2021, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Mumbai Police's controversial cop Sachin Vaze on Saturday night in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case. An abandoned vehicle laden with explosives was placed near Mukesh Ambani’s home on February 25th earlier in the year and Vaze has been taken in for questioning and has since been arrested.
