I think you will be surprised, when you find out that every dog on this list is a small dog breed. It seems that small dog breeds come up on top when it comes to having the longest life span. To help you find out the answer to the question of which dog breeds live the longest, I have compiled a list of the top 7 dog breeds with the longest lifespan and their best qualities.
1. Chihuahua
It is a huge surprise (well it was to me) it’s the Chihuahua, with a surprising life span of 16-20 years! Which is an incredible lifespan for a dog if you ask me. Chihuahua’s have many good qualities, Chihuahuas tend to be very loyal to their family/owners and are quirky dogs with big personalities, plus they don’t require a lot of exercising!
2. Jack Russell
The trusty Jack Russell, with an average life span of 16 years, which is pretty good going for a dog. Jack Russell’s are great companions, and very affectionate. They are also extremely energetic which could explain why they have the longest life span with all that built up energy.
3. Dachshund
The mighty Dachshund (or Sausage Dog) this breed of dog has an average lifespan of is around 12-16 years. Dachshunds are another loyal breed but they tend to have great comedic tendencies and a lot of courage, if you have ever seen a Dachshund in a park you understand what I mean.
4. Shitzu’s
Shitzu’s these little balls of fluff have an average life span of around 13-15 years which again is good going! Shitzu’s tend to fit in well with family orientated people, and are incredibly friendly.
