Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is the second book of the series Diary of a Wimpy Kid, written by the best seller author and game designer Jeff Kinney. The book was released in February 2008 and its colour is dark blue. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules is written as a journal by the protagonist Greg. In each book, he writes about his daily adventures and in the second book, Greg focuses on his brother. The plot involves the main character, Greg, as always, and his relationship with his brother, Rodrick and the dramatic event Greg experienced during the summer.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, the story starts in September, on a Monday when Greg reveals he has a new journal and that his brother, Rodrick, found the old one. Besides that, he tells, the rest of the summer wasn’t great either. Greg explains that his family didn’t go away for holidays because of his dad and that put him on the swimming team, again! Greg continues to state that in the middle of the summer, he got tired from the swim team and came up with a plan to no go again. Another thing that ruined Greg’s summer was the fact that his best friend, Rowley, spend almost all summer travelling.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, on the first day of school, Greg’s schoolmates run away from him, leaving him confused until realizes why is it happening: he still has the cheese touch from the previous year. Greg continues by stating how his mum, Susan, made him and Rodrick help more at home and now they are responsible for washing the dishes every night. Also, to bond with Rodrick, Greg’s mum decided that Rodrick should pick Greg at school, which didn’t go well. Greg then announces that because Rodrick knows something very embarrassing, he can do whatever he wants. Meanwhile, Greg’s dad, Frank, works on a mini replica of the Civil War, telling Manny, Greg’s younger brother, Greg, and Rodrick that the furnace is off-limits.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, a month later, the protagonist declares the arrival of his old friend Chirag Gupta. Greg pranks Chirag by pretending he hadn’t come back, an idea that Greg took from his mum, and the whole class gets in on the joke. Chirag then finds their weakness: Rowley. However, Greg manages the situation to keep the joke going. While trying to report Greg, Vince Principal Roy gets the names mixed up and the prank carries on.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrck Rules, Rowley’s birthday is coming up and Greg asks his mum for money. Susan creates the Mum Bucks program as a way for her kids to earn money. Rowley's birthday party starts, and he receives a diary, much to Greg's horror. On top of that, Chirag tells his Dad about the joke and Mr Gupta tells Susan that makes Greg go to Chirag to apologise.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, on the next Saturday, Greg’s mum and dad leave for the weekend and Rodrick calls his friends saying he’s hosting a party. Greg decides to not tell his parents about it so he can experience a high school party. But, Rodrick traps him in the basement. The next day Rodrick asks for help to clean up the mess. When the school sends a letter to have parents get their students private music lessons after Music Education get cancelled due to budgets cuts, Susan has Rodrick give Greg and Rowley drum lessons for Mum Bucks but doesn’t go as planned.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules Greg’s parents then find out about the party and because Greg knew and didn’t tell them, receives a two-week video game ban. The parents get Rodrick to start working on his science project himself at the same time that the school announces a Winter Talent Show, which gets Rowley and Rodrick excited. Greg’s dad, getting tired of listening to his son practising with his band, decides to end Rodrick’s punishment two weeks earlier. Greg invites Rowley for a sleepover but ends up hurting him in front of Manny while playing. Rowley breaks his toe while kicking Greg’s lifting pad.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, Manny screams at him and Susan makes Greg replace Scotty Douglas for Rowley's magic act. The two fail to make it into the talent show. Meanwhile, Rodrick completes his project early to have more band practices. Unfortunately, Rodrick's science teacher states Rodrick's project isn’t good enough so has to be done again. Rodrick is then told by his dad he'll have to miss the talent show to work on the project. Rodrick declines and says that if he and his group win, they plan on sending the performance to a big record label, and if said record label agrees to a contract with Rodrick's band, Rodrick plans on dropping out of school and doing the band full time.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, When the Talent Show starts, Rodrick asks Greg to film, that declines and his mum volunteers. However, Rodrick’s band doesn’t win anything, and the footage Susan recorded is unusable as she talks the entire time. Additionally, the footage that the school recorded is also unusable. And when the band starts playing, the cameraman only focuses on Susan dancing. After blaming Greg, Rodrick tells Greg’s secret to his friends that have younger siblings that go to school with Greg. The secret was that Greg once during summer, at the Leisure Towers, accidentally walked into the women’s restroom.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, After knowing about it, Greg begs his mum to exchange school as she says no, and it wasn’t just an honest mistake. The next day, at school, Greg is cornered by students, but they congratulate him rather than tease him. Greg realizes out that the story had got mixed. Somehow, the story people were talking about is that Greg infiltrated into the girls’ locker room at Crossland High School. His schoolmates then start calling him “Stealthinator”.

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules, This story ends with Greg telling Rodrick that his wish of his band getting famous came true because the video of their mum dancing to the band’s song at the talent show was over the internet. As people at school teases them about the “dancing mum” video, Greg feels bad about his brother and decides to help him with the science project.

The second book of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid got such amazing reception among fans and critics that 20th Century Fox made it into a film, directed by David Bowers. The film covers the events of the second as well as the third book of this amazing book series.
