Dirty Martini

Dirty Martini is a sophisticated take on the classic martini. It has a pleasantly salty and umami flavor that is fascinating against the gin and dry vermouth background. The dirty term refers to the addition of olive juice. Dirty martini is as classic as cocktails get. Almost everybody knows about it, have had one, and is very easy to mix up. You can easily make this drink as dirty as you want by simply pouring the olive juice according to your taste and it may take a couple of rounds to find a perfect balance.

The exact origin of the dirty martini is unclear, yet it is said that the first dirty martini was created by John O'Connor who was a New York bartender back in the 19th century. Its inspiration was taken for the classic martini's garnish, the olive, and was first made by muddling the olive into the drink and later by adding a splash of olive brine. It took decades for the dirty martini to reach a wide fan base. But now eventually it found favor among drinkers and it is equally loved and reviled as other cocktails

The key to making a great dirty martini is to use gin or vodka, and vermouth and to add only enough olive juice to lightly flavor it. it's extremely easy to form the cocktail too dirty.

Ingredients for Dirty Martini

  • 2 and half-ounces​ gin (or vodka)

  • ½ -ounce ​dry vermouth

  • ¼ to ½ -ounce olive juice (or olive brine) 

  • Garnish 2 to 4 olives

Directions for Dirty Martini

  • First, gather all the ingredients.

  • Add the gin or vodka, vermouth, and olive brine or olive juice to the mixing glass

  • Now fill the mixing glass with ice and stir well for at least 30 seconds until well-chilled.

  • Strain chilled cocktail glass and garnish with 2 to 4 olives.

  • Serve and enjoy.
