How essential oils are used

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts that retain the essence of their source. They are obtained either through distillation or mechanical methods. Once the extraction is done, they are combined with the carrier oil to produce a product that is ready for use. Essential oils are very useful to your skin, hair, and healthcare collection; in fact, many modern medications are derived from essential oils. However, while some oils are beneficial in others can be dangerous. here are three ways to use essential oils—inhalation, topical application to the skin, and oral ingestion.

Through inhalation:

The most common way to use essential oils is to through inhalation. As essential oils are extracted using steam distillation, a process that involves applying steam to plants until only oil remains and the volatile compounds present in essential oils make up the strong characteristic scent of a plant and give them soothing effects. In aromatherapy, these volatile compounds are inhaled usually by diffusing into the air with an aromatherapy diffuser.

When inhaled, molecules of essential oils may influence the nervous system and the limbic area of the brain, as well as hormones and metabolism.

Topical Application:

Essential oils can be applied directly to the skin to treat pain in a specific body part, to relieve backache, to ease sore muscles, or to relieve sinus pain. Due to their antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, essential oils may be used topically to treat acne or fungal infections. However, many essential oils can be irritating and should not be applied directly to the skin but rather diluted in a carrier oil first.

Through Ingestion:

Some essential oils can be used in cooking or even directly swallowed in small doses as medication, but this should only be done with great caution. While many essential oils are safe in small doses, but some are really inherently poisonous and should never be ingested.
