One of the most beloved cartoon series is Peppa Pig. The long-running children’s series, which started in 2004 has gained attention from all over the world. Alongside being broadcasted in over 180 countries and millions of children loving it, the merchandise is so popular that it sold items in an estimated value of $1 billion only in 2019.

Young children, older kids, entire families love to watch a television program on a lazy weekend day. Cartoons are at the top of the most favourite television series to watch. They are easy to watch, don’t require much attention or thought to know what’s happening. It’s guaranteed you’ll laugh at some point and sometimes, the meaning behind an episode or entire series is full of amazing messages that can impact your kid into learning something important.

Peppa Pig tells the story of the main character, Peppa and her daily adventures alongside her little brother, George, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig, her grandparents, and her friends. The lovely piggy loves to jump in muddy puddles, laugh and have fun and making loud snorting noises.

The television series has been broadcasting for over 16 years old, passing from generations to generations. But being for so long on the air is not the only reason why Peppa Pig got so popular in recent years.

The idea of animals having human behaviours is already interested and funny to watch, especially when the protagonists are pigs. Not even one pig in the whole world is known to go to school and participate in activities, rather they are lazy animals that love to lay down. Although very original, that’s still not enough reasons for why Peppa Pig became so famous.

Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig plays an important part in the reason why this cartoon series is so beloved by so many children. The co-creator, Mark Barker, once said, “When Peppa came out, there were a lot of children’s characters that didn’t really have a family or parents. Our experience was that children don’t like laughing at themselves but do like laughing at their parents. By having a Mummy and Daddy Pig, we could get the humour in without having to laugh at the child character. Animal stories are good for children because they give you licence – a pig is allowed to be messy – and animation works because it’s one step removed from reality, so children feel safe watching it.”

Apart from that, the public’s reaction also has a big impact on having more people watching the series. From episodes, such as episode 28 of the third season, called Whistling and aired on 24th September 2010, that sparked attention from social media and resulted in funny memes about Peppa being “petty”, to getting features of real human figures on the series, such as Queen Elizabeth II.

And of course, we couldn’t forget about the rumour regarding Peppa’s and her parents’ real height. If you wish to know more about it, click here to read Happies’ post on how tall Peppa Pig is. Intended or not, that single rumour made many fans on the internet listening to the debut music album of Peppa and give it fantastic reviews.

Now, all the motives discussed above made Peppa Pig be one of the most popular and loved television series among children of all ages and even their parents. Apart from more than 319 episodes, a wide range of merchandise, the world of Peppa Pig got to be expanded into a themed amusement park.
